So looking at them figures would we be better off on UC as we currently get £ 686.00 ESA and £332.58 carers allowance per month plus full housing benefit (council house and council tax ) making £1018 but on UC we would get £821.30 plus £ 332.58 carers allowance which would be £1153.88 a month . Have i understood that right ?0

That's correct once your CTC ends, although the UC figure doesn't include rent because without knowing whether it's private or social rent I couldn't be entirely sure if it'll all be covered.kid_from_yesterday said:So looking at them figures would we be better off on UC as we currently get £ 686.00 ESA and £332.58 carers allowance per month plus full housing benefit (council house and council tax ) making £1018 but on UC we would get £821.30 plus £ 332.58 carers allowance which would be £1153.88 a month . But we can do it this way instead: How much HB do you currently get per week (or per 4 weeks)? We can convert that to a monthly amount and then that's the rent element you'd get on UC, on top of the figures already given.0 -

I don't know what UC do about 4 weeks rent-free, can any other members advise please?kid_from_yesterday said:Hi our rent is 125 a week we get 4 weeks rent free its a council property and we are band C thank you so much for your help .0 -
AFAIK with UC rent would be calculated annually (52 weeks) and divided by 12. This would take into account any "free" weeks.Spoonie_Turtle said:

So 48 * £125 = £500pm

Just to add, you are slightly worse off on UC if rent is weekly as they just use 52 weeks and really it's 52 weeks and a day or two days in a leap year.
So for example if a person pays £140 week that person pays £20 a day, so £7300 per non leap year and £7320 in a leap year. But on UC it's a standard £7280 every year.

Yep, that is correct. I also have 4 free weeks in my rent payments, two fortnights around 6 months apart from each other. I'm on HB as I'm on legacy benefits and it gets paid to them on my behalf every 4 weeks regardless, ignoring the 4 free weeks which the Housing Assosiation allow to go into debt as they is paid by benefit. My account with them goes from being in credit and debt by a few weeks at a time throughout the year, it's almost never balanced at £0.HillStreetBlues said:

However, when I got moved onto a nil amount during the 18 month or so of my inheritence a few years back and I had to pay the directly instead they changed the payment schedule to paying monthly, under the calculation HSB mentions above. Again the free weeks were kind of ignored outside of the calculation, so my balance wasn't always showing as exactly NIL but they counted the payments as satisfied as long as I kept to the monthly calculation scheduled they set up.1 -
Thanks for confirming.Jyana said:
