Spanish speed fine scam
Hi have just received today a Spanish speeding fine by post from DGT.es of an alleged offence on the 10/10/23 ,the thing is i have not been to Spain recently and certainly not driven my own vehicle.
Has anyone had a similar experience or know who to contact to resolve it. Tempted to just ignore it, but could this affect any future travel to Spain.

What specific details did it have of you/your car? eg, your name, car reg, any photos? Did the car make/model match yours?
How are you being asked to pay the fine?
Assuming it is from Spanish authorities, and not a scam, the obvious initial thought is a cloned number plate on another car.0 -
All details of me appear correct vehicle reg ,make model , and as i said posted to my home address. No photos , to follow payment procedures0

Why do you say "scam"? That's a government department, assuming it's genuinely from them. Is it not more likely that someone has misread (or cloned) a number plate?0

It sounds like a scam to me, have a read of this...if you weren't there it must be a scam.

Have you read what you've linked to? That's about fake tickets being put on windscreens, it doesn't seem to be related to the OP at all (other than being Spanish!).Barneysmom said:It sounds like a scam to me, have a read of this...if you weren't there it must be a scam.

Were you in Spain in your vehicle at anytime in the 3 months or so before the date of the fine ?
If you were then I would suggest the fine could be genuine.
Things move very slowly over the compared to the UK.
Have a look at this link.

Thanks , no i was not in spain at the time of alleged offence , only evidence to prove this is my passport number which i am reluctant to send , will read appeal procedure see what to do.0

Not sure whether you're being purposely elusive to @greyteam1959's question - but have you ever taken that vehicle to Spain irrespective of whether it was there at the time of the alleged offence ?Gaz2764 said:Thanks , no i was not in spain at the time of alleged offence , only evidence to prove this is my passport number which i am reluctant to send , will read appeal procedure see what to do.
Your passport is only going to show your movements and not those of your vehicle so that's unlikely to help
If your vehicle has, at some point, been in the location of the offence it may be a date/admin issue
or it could just be an admin issue of mis-reading the plate
or you could have a cloned vehicle running round Spain on your plates2 -
Rather than sending them any information, send them a Subject Access Request instead. Find out what they have.0

And it won't even do that if you drove over a Schengen border without having it checked.Wonka_2 said:
