Opening Tesco savings some time after last being a customer

Yes yes, I know they're not the top interest provider so anyway...
I've just tried opening the 4.75% savings account with Tesco. When giving me my username it brought up my old one that I used when I was last a customer with them. Then it got to the security number. I consult bitwarden for what it was, enter the digits & I just get this error....

I can't go to forgot security number (even though I haven't!) because it's wanting me to use existing info from accounts I don't have.
Any others of you who signed back up with Tesco experience this & can say how you got around it?
I'm in need of different pots but for ease I want them in 1 location. I could do Chase at 4.1% but was going to do the Tesco one for the extra 0.65%.

It might seem obvious but the first thing I would do is clear cookies for the site and cache, then enter the details from scratchThe way I read your post is that you didn't get as far as the password as that is after the security number0

Also, I shouldn't have any cookies or cache for the site since this is actually the first time I've visited Tesco banking site since doing a fresh install of windows 10 on a new drive.
Edit to add: I've contacted them on twitter. Just waiting on their response. Just wondered if others here had experienced the same.0 -
Seems odd then that something remembered your username, there is some interaction going onI would still clear C&C and do whatever you have to do to take bitwarden out of the equationYou could also open a new tab in privacy or incognito mode

IIRC (I'm not at home at the mo) it remembered my username after I told them my house number & post code.
Also with bitwarden, I only used it to access the details I held for Tesco (security number in this case). Once I knew the number I'd used last, I just answered the question on the site.
I'll try the privacy/incognito thing tonight if they haven't replied beforehand. I suspect they'll want me to phone them. Folk seem to like that.0 -
Were you were applying for a new account ('I told them my house number & post code'). Have you tried just logging on in the usual manner?

I tried the log in first (I think - it was early) then I tried clicking on savings, selecting the product & doing it that way.
Met the error both ways.

Have you tried via the app.
Just to gain access / reactivate login details.0 -
It's probably a rare problem and I think you are going to need to speak with them.
I had a similar thing with Santander where I opened a current account having had no accounts with them for over a decade and it connected me with my old self and gave me an empty app and contact details that were a mixture of my current address but with my previous landline number and email address! Fortunately the app let me update the details but it did take a call to customer support to make my new account appear. Amusingly I have since had an email mailshot from the CEO thanking me for being one of their longer standing loyal customers! My banking with them is something like 6 year on, 11 years off, 10 months on, and the current account is waiting for a switching opportunity.0 -

A phone call is best avoided as it's not just me who wants to open these for this reason.
Family members have me sort their banking out & something like this where a phone call is needed, they'll request I'm there at the phone call "in case something is asked that I don't know the answer to"... Despite me giving them all the info needed I can think of.0 -
I had similar experience. The details of my previous accounts had been kept but I couldn't logon and kept going around in circles. When I got through, they explained that I couldn't because my account was now regarded as defunct through inactivity (but there no sensible error messages). I think they took out the inactivity flag and then all ok.1
