Money Moral Dilemma: Should I refuse to pay the service charge when eating out?

yes if it says on the menu 12.5% service charge will be added then that is part of the contract and it is mandatory you can't deduct it from the bill at the end0

If a service charge is added automatically, I too can do the automatic bit and strike it out. This can cause acrimony. Dilligaf. If the service has been good I will usually leave a cash tip to ensure it gets into the right hands. 10% of the pre-VAT, rounded up as I feel like. Absolutely NOT paying a tip/service charge on a tax!0

I agree, tips are given when you have had good service, not just added to your bill, the staff rarely get the cash., adding 10% to an overpriced bottle of wineis just theft.0
