This same exact thing has happened to me, someone has taken then same amount of money and spent it on argos in two seperate transactions. PayPal have turned around to state that there has been no unauthorized transaction and have gone down the route of not receiving the goods to get “buyers payback protection” (when I have told them I have not brought anything from Argos) to and I am going through the same sort of responses that you got from them? Argos has provided tracking information that they have collected from store and I am now waiting for an outcome…. It doesn’t look like it will be going in my favour …. Can you give me some advice on what you did to get your money back😩 TIA0

Hi Mitch, have you checked whether there is an ‘Automatic Payment’ set up on PayPal for Argos? Go into your Wallet and find Automatic Payments. If you can’t find it there, go to Help, type automatic payments and follow the links. If there is one for Argos, this is what has caused it. If a merchant or PayPal set up an automatic payment, the merchant can simply request money from PayPal and you don’t ever need to log in again. PayPal doesn’t even tell you it has been set up. They can then take any amount of money at any time and it even overrules 2 factor authentication. If you run out of money, they can revert to any direct debits and change the amount to take the money requested. Cancel all automatic payments, unless they are subscriptions. PayPal should not be setting these up. Even if this isn’t what has caused your issue, you need to cancel these automatic payments, as we lost almost £10600 in minutes due to someone setting one of these up. We have now had it back, but it’s taken a full 4 weeks of fighting every day!0
