Temp reusing a Virgin Media box

Hi,

Anyone know whether changing the login/account used on a box is allowed/okay to do?

We have virgin broadband, but effectively because changing account holder the old account will be closed down and a new account for the new account holder with new equipment set up.

Seems a faf and maybe the call centre person didn't know what they were doing, but hey we get a new customer discount.

The problem is that we've been emailed saying there will be a delay on sending the new box out. I'd factored in a couple of weeks for swap over (though maybe they won't send out equipment to a new account until an old account at a property is closed, don't know) however it means potentially no internet for a week now.

Does anyone know if I could put the new account details in the old box when that account's closed and use that until the replacement turns up, or is the account linked to the actual box given?

No the boxes have to be set up back end. They have a serial number hardwired in them. However no harm in trying. Please let us know if it works? Something similar happened with sky. My contract finished and my ADSL was still active but I used my own router. 5 days later the whole line got disconnected.
