Has anyone managed to open the 5.22% Metro Bank easy access? "..something is not quite right'

I received the magic word and managed to open the account. I had to call them and they said they would send me the magic word; I’m not sure if the one I received is the original one or the second one requested by phone.

Can you change setting on the phone?
Mine could switch to 'document' setting which seems to be better.

We've just applied for an instant access account and the site has reported an issue, preventing us from completing the application.

Passport ID uploaded along with a Selfie. 

Site reports a "something not quite right" and asks you to log back in, then loops around to fault again, with no explanation.

Will probably try again later. Disappointing that they haven't resolved this and reading about the delays others have experienced.

I have the opposite problem. I already had a Metro current account and opening the savings account was so easy I accidentally opened two!  I don't want the second one but I have to phone them to close it rather than being able to do it in the app. So I haven't bothered.

And now you are wondering how I accidentally opened two. Well, after you confirm you want the first one there is no confirmation page. It just takes you back to the home page with no sign of the new account. I waited 5 minutes, logged out and logged in then assumed the application had failed so I did it again...

Well after several attempts throughout today, we finally called them. Absolutely useless customer service. I'm not even sure the advisor understood the application process or the the nature of the problem. Basically he referred us to the Branch. I could open another account online with others quicker than I can find my car keys.

Not sure how in this day and age of digital banking, opening a savings account could be so difficult.

In the last year or so I've used dozens of different banking apps and almost all of them have daft quirks and/or blatant omissions in how they work so it's not just Metro, although they have probably made me scowl more than average.

I'll give credit to the likes of Tandem, Kroo, Zopa, Marcus, Al-Rayan, Chase, Atom (and to a lesser extent Chip)

Opening a functional savings account with these is in the past has been a breeze. More often than not, an account is open in minutes. 

Even in the dark old days of non-app based savings the likes of Icesave and ICICI were slicker

I managed to open one without any issues and transferred money in but the interest rate continues to show the normal variable rate (1.64%) rather than the advertised special rate if incoming fund criteria is met. Has anyone had this and did it just take a little while to update? The account T&Cs received via email could be interpreted as either rate changes as soon as you meet criteria or after 28 days after opening..

A reminder that as per the Important Information Sheet, from 10 November 2023 you can earn a Limited Edition rate of 5.22% AER* / 5.10% Gross (variable) for 12 months if a minimum account balance of £500 is reached within 28 calendar days of account opening.

  •  During the 12‑month period the rate can vary meaning it can go up or down, but it will not go below the Standard Variable rate that is available at that time.

  •  Your account will earn Standard Variable rate interest until you meet the Limited Edition rate criteria.
