Could they not service it on say the 20th Dec. but fill the service book in and put down say the 1st of Dec ,i am sure they do not supply the info to WB on a day by day basis ,if they did they might have to contact them 3 times a day when busy.

There will be no issue with the warranty with this.
However, when I service boilers I leave a print out of my final readings which is time and date stamped.

No notification is given to WB in any case. You just fill the benchmark service section in. If it breaks under warranty, they may or may not ask to see it when they attend.

Any engineer can service it. Doesn’t have to be a WB accredited engineer.
has to be Gas Safe registered though.

Yes, when I said engineer I assumed people would understand I meant gas engineer.

The engineer that Sustain Homes sent serviced it yesterday and filled in the entry in the service book with yesterdays date.

It would be truly astonishing, David, if W-B said anything other than, "Don't worry - we understand, covered!".
So, for your peace of mind, contact them, and tell them the timeline facts.
And don't forget the ultimate arm-twisting incentive should they prevaricate - it's being discussed on Martin's forum...
  • We had a similar situation. Had a service booked in for the one year anniversary and the heating engineer just dropped off the face of the earth... Next date an accredited WB servicer could fit us in was a month later. I asked WB live chat, they said the following:

"thank you for getting in touch with us, as long as your boiler will be serviced soon it won't make an impact. If there was a fault with the boiler and you needed our assist we would advice the boiler would need to be serviced at the same time."

    So I wouldn't worry  :)
