If, like me, you have an under-counter fridge you look down on the bottles in the door, and you can’t see the labels.
When I noticed that some milk bottles had white caps, I started saving any coloured caps I got. Now when I open a new bottle I replace the white cap with one of the appropriate colour.
You got me thinking I wished I saved a blue top for that reason, great idea, then I remembered I only ever have whole milk :o

Hadn't realised that the "tethering" was an intentional thing. I know they changed the plastic used in caps which now means bottle and cap can be recycled together whereas previously the two had to be separated because of the different plastics. Had somewhat assumed it was just a compromise design to deal with the different properties of the new cap plastic

Bottled water isn't a con, if it's mineral water. The Guardian article.on forever chemicals in British tap water is horrifying. I feel lucky that the tap water we use for cooking is spring water, with only chlorine added to kill bacteria in pipes, which has to be done by law.

I hate the new tethered cap.  I separate the cap from the bottle then remove the ring that stays attached to the bottle and discard it in the non-recycled waste bin.  I do recycle the bottle with the cap replaced.  So the net effect is that less of the plastic is recycled.

The idea is that the whole thing is recycled so no need to separate lid & bottle. Just remember to squash the bottle before replacing the cap. You are making work for yourself!

The National Farmers Union has asked the govt to review the allowable pesticide levels in tap water, not to decrease them, but to increase them !  Since Brexit, the EU has banned more pesticides and the UK govt still allows UK farmers to use them.

Evian is our biggest food & drink expense.
  • This talk on bottled water has got me thinking. I think I could tell the difference between Evian and unfiltered tap water, but would anyone be able to tell the difference between Evian and, say, Buxton? This is akin to the Pepsi v Coca Cola challenge  :)

I used to sometimes buy the Kirkland bottler water from Costco which worked out about 10p a bottle, but now I just use a Brita filter.

I very rarely buy bottled water but I can taste the difference with Volvic, it has a markedly different feel.
