A chargeback would almost certainly be immediately reversed.

Which leave you with s75, which will need to to prove to the card company that you didn't get what was promised and that the terms were breached.

You're probably better off continuing to press the holiday company.
There is no evidence in the original post that a credit card was used for payment and even if they did use a credit card you will have the problem that there is no creditor/lender association for 29 of the party.
As long as the card owner was part of the group and it was on a single booking then that shouldn't be an issue.
    That establishes a direct link.

I think the biggest problem here is that the OP accepted the downgrade and didn't just insist on a refund. Their comment that they couldn't (due to it being a wedding) won't really wash as there are more than two hotels in Cyprus - they could have easily taken their refund and went elsewhere on the island.
    Yes I understand this also!
The thing is, because it was a wedding we all booked the same hotel so for most of us to be together this was the only hotel on the island that could’ve accommodated us. There wasn’t room at any other hotel.
It’s just wether that would wash with the credit cards or courts etc

I had a quick look at Tripadvisor review ratings - both hotels get overwhelmingly favourable reviews in the EXCELLENT ratings.
Of course that doesn't mean to say some guests didn't have a negative experience in either.
One comment confused me though -
"I also spent a grand on food because the food was terrible at the Dome, compared to the Chrysomare which was top quality."
As I read the scenario, nobody stayed at the latter hotel, so how is it possible to comment on the food there for comparison ?
Apologies if I misunderstood this observation ?

The OP was told it wasn't a downgrade so accepted the new hotel on that basis.
If the OP can prove it was a downgrade, then the basis of acceptance was misleading so as I see it a claim shouldn't be a problem.

I could stay at a £50 hotel  and rate 5/5 and stay at a £500 hotel and rate it 1/5 , doesn't mean the first one is better as I would base it on cost.

Agreed, however TripAdvisor rates both hotels as 4 Star as far as I can see, that apart I couldn't quite follow the comparative standards of food comment - as it appeared the guests did not stay in one of the two named hotels.
    Maybe I misread/misunderstood that ?
The OP did not make it clear if complaints had been raised with the management of the Dome, and/or the rep about the catering grievance, which would have been appropriate IMO.
