The liquids issue I get.. The duty free not so much, surely they could ask you pay the duty rather than handing over the entire item. Or arguably not even that, as at the point of purchase the intention was to fly out of the country, and you are doing that just after a delay. Its hard to abuse because you didn't know of the delay.
What liquids issue? They are presumably going airside to landside, can take as many liquids as they want going in that direction (up to the customs limit, obviously)
Before, they were able to take the liquids bought airside onto the flight and to the destination country.
Due to the delay, they have to cross to landside AND back through security to airside again in order to get the liquids to the intended destination. They may not have baggage allowance / space / leakproof materials to take it in checked baggage. In hand luggage, they would no longer be able to take the liquids through security.

Yes, but like I said, what happens when they (presumably) come back to the airport after a matter of hours to board another flight? They could maybe put it into checked baggage, but that risks breakages and might not be feasible depending on whether they have any such baggage allowance.
Well yes there isnt enough info to go off. If you were sent home to then come back in 12 hours or whatever you could easily take the stuff back out and then return to the airport.

    Hi,
I have a claim in  with Jet2 for expenses including duty free that was that taken off us as we had to enter the country due to a delay. I had food, internet and duty free with a total of about £150. They have agreed to pay if i can provide the original receipts. The problem is I don't have have them, the duty free one was in thee duty free bag. They will not accept a bank statement as proof. Any tips....?
    TBH.
Why no receipt for the duty free at least.

Sadly without the receipts then you are looking at being out of luck, as that is their requirement.

  • I have flown From Australia to Scotland via London.

We were advised in advance that we would not be able to take any duty free goods between terminals in Heathrow  therefore could not buy any duty free goods on the return leg of our holiday. ( You cannot, obviously buy any in London for a flight to Scotland).
Going out was not an issue as we bought in Heathrow.

None of this helps the OP, but just demonstrating some issues that I’d not previously been aware of.

Is that just a liquids thing (because you'd have to go through security again at Heathrow)? I don't see the point if it's about duty, you'd still be importing it from Australia to the UK no matter whether you have an onward domestic flight.

No it’s not about the liquids.
You cannot take/ purchase duty free goods on a domestic U.K. flight.
To go from one terminal to the other you are forced to go outwith the security area of one terminal and then back in again to another terminal. Duty free is only sold within the secure area of the airport - you can’t take it in with you.

Yes, I get that you can't buy duty free in Heathrow and take it on a domestic flight, but there's nothing stopping you from taking duty free which you've already imported from another country - all that matters is that you took it out of Australia. You can do what you like with it afterwards.
