There is no right and wrong way to manage any part of your life including money, if we were all the same it would be very boring.

We have two joint accounts. My husband's income goes into the first joint account, and my income goes into the second joint account. Because he has nearly always earned far more than me, he pays all the bills from his "joint account" and I am responsible for all the savings from my "joint account". This gives us both a semblance of financial independence, but this systems works well because we've always trusted each other. It also means that if one of us died suddenly the remaining partner would still be able to access both accounts.
  • My OH and I have seperate accounts, I earn the majority of the total household income at the moment, so almost all the bills come out of my account (so that I know that they will get paid!). He pays for his mobile, the Sky (that he wanted and I didn't) and the internet.

Having said that, he's quite happy for me to control both accounts online so I can keep both of them out of the red.
