Thanks Lucielle, KK, Jwil and Sandy
I'll decide on car vs rail later.
Sent £200 to savings the other day which helps make up for what I withdrew. It's at 8% so the more important one. I got £42 in interest on a different account.
Today I will pay off the cc with my holiday just gone on it.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

How lovely to catch up on all your fabulous photos SH - the place in Italy looked just stunning, and that garden, wow! I'd have been quite happy walking over the aqueduct, but MrEH wouldn't have been so happy, heights are NOT his thing!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks EH and catclaires
I can't wait to return to Italy - but NT properties like that garden are amazing too!
I had a faff today trying to pay my CC as I'd lost the card - as in put it somewhere safe - but it's not materialised after nearly a week - so decided to request a new one. Meanwhile I'd deleted the app on the other phone so tried to pay them direct - didn't work. Turned out the card I was trying to pay with - I'd temporarily frozen. So went to main bank account and tried to pay from there - but it didn't want to unfreeze. Cue multiple calls with the fraud team who kept rejecting the payment and I got locked out of my account. Then had to uninstall and reinstall app to get past a bug in the system - call to fraud team again as payment still wouldn't go through. Red faced realisation that I'd made a typo on the reference for my CC. My original holiday is now paid off. Ended up finishing early as it took too much time to resolve!
I now need to turn NFC back off - it didn't recognise the chip in my card anyway - and freeze the card again as I don't
use it for general payments and want to reduce the risk of cloning / scams etc.
Will try and make myself go out for a walk. It poured it down earlier but seems to be dry for now at least.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

What a faff with your card. When that sort of thing happens it feels like being stuck in a maze with no way out, going round and round. I'm stuck in a loop at the moment trying to set up the app for my recent bank account switch in order to pay some money in, in order to get the switching money. Using up lots of patience with pins, codes, customer numbers, card numbers, authentication code, verification codes 😳
really pleased to hear that you've booked another holiday.4 -
Thanks DIA and Blackcats
Good luck with setting up the app Blackcats - know exactly what that feels like.
I've updated my £. The handyman may call in Friday but slightly unclear on whether that is to work or to let me know why he's been unavailable. With my holiday I don't really have spare cash to use on the handyman without raiding savings but I need some jobs finishing off. I still need to order a blind and get someone to fit it. I may skim off the positive interest I'm being paid and use that towards clearing my 0% CC and use my regular savers as they complete. Trying to leave ISAs untouched - which both pay monthly interest which is very nice.
I've buying 2 weeks annual leave again so that will impact me from October - so need to see what difference that makes first before I commit to extra pension. I'm also slightly tentative while I wait to see what the new govt does. Don't want my £ locked away and unreachable or a one off tax eroding it.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

@doingitanyway just read your signature. made me smile. thank youMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!3 -
What a fantastic location for your holiday and gorgeous photos. Glad you're booked up for another trip.

Thanks MF and Watty
I got out for a walk at lunchtime today which was positive - but before that I had bad work related news and bad family health related news.
Why when you just feel like you are getting yourself together do things like this come along and whack us?
With both there is a lack of info which makes it harder to deal with - but it feels like I have a very rocky 9-12 months ahead of me. While I may keep my job - there are no guarantees - and others I care about are at significant risk...
Trying to look after me - so had a meal out - and brought half home to have tomorrow.
