Another MIF post…

Just brief background… was on tax credits had injury moved to UC… got back to health but lost lot of self employed work as had been off a while. Managed to get a job working 20 hours per wk employed currently aswell as declaring any self employed work I’ve managed to fit in around it. My question is as I’ve been saving a small bit each month to buy some more work(window cleaning) will I be entitled to 12 month start up? Obviously I’ll drop the 20 hour work employment when I’m in position to? (I’ve not had the start up previously but the business has been established a while)

I assume you have not been found to be in "gainful self-employment", correct?

You would get a start-up period from when you are found to be gainfully self-employed.

You would normally be found to be gainfully self-employed from the point when the self-employment is your "main" job, which is likely to be no later than the point at which you drop the employed work. Possibly a bit earlier, depending on the exact circumstances.

Yes that’s correct. Just planning for future as the job I’ve took on to get by isn’t something I enjoy particularly but needs must. Will take me a while to save up enough to buy a business worth the amount of money a month i currently earn but once done wasn’t sure I’d be entitled to the year with out the MIF applied to really try and kick on and get off the system once and for all! Guessing the worse that could happen is I end up same boat as Im in now and have to find part time employed role again
