Nationwide Credit Card Application

I am a Nationwide member.  I tried to apply for their credit card.  The eligible checker said I will be declined for a card, but at the same time, the offer said my credit limit will be £75k at 24.9% if accepted.

This is confusing. Should I go ahead with the full application?  Any chance it will be accepted even if the eligibility checker says otherwise?
Did you apply to Nationwide direct after online login to their banking website - or via third party eligibility facility ?
I would suggest the former option if not already done so - and a visit to a branch (if convenient) should you still experience issues.

Hopefully its just additional security / id checks - there seems to be a lot more of them currently.
  • Hi everyone,

I applied for a Nationwide Credit Card today and received the following messages.

At the Eligibility Check page: "We may be able to offer you a credit card".
    After submitting a full application:

"We need to check a few more details before we can complete your application. Within 7 working days we'll either:
-Confirm if we've been able to approve your application
-Let you know if we need anything else from you"

Has anyone experienced this? Message so far did not augur well.

    Thank you!
Yep that's normal. Give them a ring and ask what the final checks are, they are usually ID and confirmation of income checks which you have to do in branch. I only found this out on the phone as I never received an email asking for this information.

I’ve been a customer of nationwide since 2007. Even though I use for them for my main banking and have rarely used overdrafts on my accounts they just don’t seem to want to give me a credit card.

Yes it looks like it obviously they’ll do further checks if you proceed with an application.

It doesn’t mean approved it just means you’re eligible to apply for the card.

well it says 'if you apply now we'll be able to offer you ..'
  • Nationwide advised after I rang them that proof of income is required to process my application. Their letter hasn't arrived yet.

Wondering how you submitted your documents? Could they accept a P60? Was your application eventually approved? Thank you!!

Wow! The message seems to suggest a pre-approval. Did you apply? Was it formally and instantly approved?
