Barclays are running a £175 switch.  The criteria states you must;
Open a sole Barclays Bank Account in the app and join Barclays Blue Rewards

I've downloaded the app and there's no way to open an account.  It appears to be solely for existing customers.

How have people claimed the £175 when Barclays have made it impossible to meet their arbitrary rule that you must open the account via the app???

Things like this drive me up the fkin wall!

    LOL

Some people do have these problems and it seem to be linked to not available after hours

On the app in normal business hours so to speak there should be 2 choices

    Existing customer and New customer

I suggest you try again between 9am  and 4pm

Yes I know pita in the days of 24hr banking
  • cheers, I'll try during daytime hours.

It's bizarre that they'd code something into the app that hides new applications after a certain time.  Surely a bank's M.O is to bag as many new customers as possible.  Even having a greyed out box explaining you can't apply after 'X'pm would be better than this.

When did you download the app? from a previous thread it appeared that the original version of the app from early November didnt have the facility to open a new account but now does.

I've had multiple problems with this application process and the app too. Payee brought across from the account switch isn't allowed to send payments, the process crashes out. Brand new payee works fine. For a major high street bank the problems with their systems appear to be considerable and highly surprising compared to the many accounts I've opened easily elsewhere. Glad it's not my main account and unlikely it ever will be at this rate.

  • What app are you all using?

Is it the barclayCARD app? I have the barclays app that I manage my mortgage through but I have no option to do anything else like open new bank accounts through the barclays app??
  • This problem has been covered (and solved) over and overt again in the other thread

I downloaded the app 20th Nov.

MikeJXE's advice was correct that the new customer option did appear during daytime hours.

I've now opened the account but noticed that I can't set a new payee up because I'm a new customer.  Apparently I have to wait 4 days.  Yet another arbitrary restriction.

You'd have had to "trawl" through one, maybe two pages but hey, it's your money and your time and if you didn't think it worth the effort, so be it. Fortunately for you others have put the effort in which you have now benefited from.

Like I said above, I've had more hassle with the Barclays app than any other bank. There is a payee on my account that doesn't work but a brand new one does. Their level of testing appears to be exceptionally poor.
