0% Eligibility

Had a look through a few eligibility checkers recently and noticed they all give me a 0% chance of getting any cards, I feel a little confused by this as I currently have credit cards, three actually and paying them/managing them well so I’m confused as to why such a cold reply from these checkers, I do have defaults on my credit report and a couple of CCJs but they are from years ago, could this be the reason, also do have a few too many credit searches which I’m in the process of bringing down, will that also be a reason for the poor checker results? Thanks.

  • 0% deals are generally for lower risk customers, so your very poor credit history is almost certainly the answer.

Well, you have to wait until they drop off after 6 years.

  • Keep using and running your existing cards well until the defaults etc are no longer part of your credit history.
  • Your credit history is almost certainly the reason for a 0% chance of approval through eligibility.

You mention you have 3 credit cards already, why do you require more?
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

    Secured/Unsecured loans x 1
    Credit Cards x 8 (total limit £55,050)
Creation FS Retail Account x 1
    Creation Credit Sale 0% x 1 = £112.50pm x 20 mths
    0% Overdraft x 1 (£0 / £250)
    Mortgage Outstanding - £137,707.00 (Payment 13/360)
    Total Debt = £7,400 (0%APR) @ £100pm - Stoozing

  • When it comes to negative info on a credit report there's only one thing will rectify it's effects. Time. There's no shortcut or magic wand. Concentrate on building a positive record that will follow on behind the defaults. A nice sea of green ticks to stand in place of those nasty red crosses when they fall off after 6 years. The older the negative info gets the lesser effects they will have. My satisfied CCJ falls off my file in March, I'm responsible with my cards now, pay them off in full religiously. After a couple of years of only being offered credit builder cards (nothing wrong with those, they've done the job) I now have Amex Avios, Virgin Money, John Lewis and HSBC but it's taken a while. I make credit cards work for me now and earn rewards for the money I'd have spent anyway.

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.
  • comparison site eligibility checkers are not always completely accurate, my offers are showing only as what I would call adverse lenders but if i go direct to the websites of high street lenders I am pre approved on their own individual checkers

I always get the 0% eligibility on clear score, credit karma and mse credit club. I have done for years. I have one default left. Apart from that my file is ok, no late payments or anything. So I went direct to where I wanted a card from. I got a Barclaycard Platinum, 0% BT and purchases for 6 months.

It's not great but it's better than what I have at the minute.

Previous negative credit history with any financial institution could potentially result in a future lifetime decline. Internally they can keep a list of do not business with again customers. Their prerogative.
  • I am getting 0% eligibility on most cards.  I already have 2 with a good credit history but I wanted to change one of them for a better rewards/cashback card as I have some large purchases to make over the coming months.  What annoys me is that they only take account of your income but not any savings.
