Easy jet refuse compensation for cancelled flight

Options
Hello

this is my first post on the forum hell to everyone.
Last August I booked a weekend trip to Venice via easyjet holidays  and when were at the airport with just 1 hour to take off our flight was cancelled.
Easyjet claimed bad weather in Venice but every other airline landed that day and the weather showed 26 degrees and sunny on the forecast.
Skyscanner showed our plane was still in the baleric islands and not even on its way to Manchester.

Under their reps advice I purchased new flight with another company the next day but I am now being told that I will receive no re reimbursement or compensation as it was an act of god over the weather.

We lost a night in the hotel too and when we got there all the airport staff said conditions were fine and everyone except our plane landed that day.

I am owed quite a lot on money on this so need help please .

thanks

James

    Was it an afternoon flight?

Very likely you misheard the reason (or at least the location), and could have been bad weather earlier in the day on an earlier rotation of the plane scheduled to be used.

Was this a package holiday "weekend trip to Venice via Easyjet Holidays"?
OR, was this a flight and the hotel booked separately?

Who were you dealing with - EasyJet Holidays or the airline, and was this just verbal or was there anything put in writing?  If it was a package as implied then you should have been talking to the holiday arm and insisting that they made alternative arrangements for you, as it's their responsibility to do so - if it had been a flight-only booking then the airline would have been required to do so too, but it's more commonplace for airlines to offload that to passengers.

Either way, you're entitled to reimbursement of the cost of the replacement flight, but compensation will depend on whether the airline can make a case that there were extraordinary circumstances outside their control, such as bad weather, which need not actually have been at your destination.
  • sorry for the late replies.  Yes was dealing with Easjet customer service direct.  They have no changed their stance to it was not an act of god it was air traffic control. Again another lie.
Yes was a 3pm afternoon flight

Not necessarily a lie, in that ATC restrictions may be imposed as a result of adverse weather conditions, and as above, these need not be anywhere near your destination (or departure airport for that matter).

Not sure if this is still a live issue so long after you originally posted about it, but if you were dealing with Easyjet Holidays (rather than a rep of the airline) then they were obliged under the Package Travel Regulations to get you to your destination at no extra cost, so shouldn't have left you to make your own arrangements.  They should also offer a partial refund to reflect the loss of one of the nights away.  Neither of these are affected by the underlying cause of the flight cancellation, even if that absolved the airline of any responsibility to pay fixed-tariff compensation.
