Marcus for ease of access (app based of course)

If not app based (pc or phone) then ns&i direct saver. You can also use ns&i app if you want to to view the balance.

Marcus can also be operated online.

I would recommend Marcus as the account is easy to use and set up. Withdrawals are very speedy (but not instant). Can open and operate with £1 and deposits and withdrawals can be done 7 days a week. Interest rate is not the best but better being comfortable with a bank than automatically going for higher rates.

I also like Saffron Building Society and their E Saver issue 20 with monthly interest of 4.8% per year. £10 minimum balance. Withdrawals take about 2 hours max but not at weekends (although I withdrew last Sunday and it was in my nominated account the same day - a fluke I think). Also, unlike Marcus you can deposit from any account but only withdraw to your nominated account.

Customer support has always been superb - online or by phone.

Both have apps which are quite basic but useful and easy to use. Both pay interest monthly

Are Cahoot any good in this respect (good rates, ease of use)??

With the requirements you've specified I wouldn't touch Cahoot. They're a brand from Santander but are being run down so for a long term solution are unlikely to be a good choice.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • A lot of mention of Marcus, but none of sister company Saga. They're both owned by Goldman Sachs, and use the same App platform.
I opened a Saga account last year when they were near the top rate, and can recommend the process and speed of withdrawals.
I prefer familiar names in banking, and had not heard of Marcus, but did have previous dealings with Saga. Over 50s only restriction applies.

Hampshire Trust Bank. Very easy to use and good rates.
It's a bit strange that they prefer you to call to setup any other accounts after your initial account
    Or email.
  • Thanks for all the feedback - really appreciate it...i think i will suggest Marcus as its dependable, easy to use, quick and a known entity to me - albeit not a rate leader.   Thanks all!
