I'm on the 5GB plan - just discovered today that international texts aren't included in the plan.  I probably should've spotted that when signing up.  Maybe I thought that EU roaming covered it.

Roaming is when you take your phone out of the UK to one of the listed EU countries. This allows you to use calls/text/data as if you were at home (often with caps in place). This does not include making international calls/texts from the UK.

Could you send Whatsapp messages instead?

Why would you expect them to be? I don’t think any network includes international SMS in the allowance offered.

Lebara plans do come with an allowance for international calls but not texts iirc. And lebara have a pretty strict interpretation of inclusive roaming, it is calls and texts TO UK numbers FROM abroad (eu and india)

I didn't expect anything given my slapdash flight (from being a perennial PAYG Scrooge) through the sign-up.  I blundered into the SMS issue like any knackered old-age pensioner.

I too am on the same 5gb sim only plan by Lebra.  I too thought international texting from UK  was allowed. On checking, i realised that it includes 100 mins voice call to several international destinations & not texting. I'm not sure if I can add on international texting as many companies don't use 'whatsapp'
