I’m a paranoid Ar5e and would be getting a second quote for sure.
Find a no pass no fee mot Centre.
Rocker cover gasket can be a very easy job, on my old rover’s it was a 20 minute job. £10 gasket and £5 sealant.
Or fold a local car valeter and pay £20-£30 for an engine steam clean, that’s what I would do 😎.
With no info on what’s wrong with the brakes/ calipers second opinion would be good.
Give a rough idea of where you are and someone on here might give you a recommendation for a good local mechanic.
Near Croydon I could help. Mechanic I’ve used for 25 years.
Plus Norbury for Toyota specialist.

The guy I know is near CR2 6EL. 16 ish miles away.
He also uses an honest mot garage.
Plus he was an mot tester in the past. So no funny business goes on.
Pm if you want details.0 -
you say you have done less than 3000 miles since lat MOT but then say you dont want a service because it was only done 2900 miles ago. Surely you are servicing your car yearly at least?1

Just an update, funny one, so I went in yesterday morning had a chat and said only one caliper may be needed for the handbrake fail 12 percent.
So in total for exhaust flexi , rocker cover gasket and the caliper all in 534 quid, I said fine.
Still had car at 5 when I tried to call with no answer just called me today saying rocker cover bolts have snapped so I will now need a new rocker cover on top...... totaling a nice 940 pounds !!!!
What the hell 😳 😐0 -
So that's nearly 400 for the cover, they did say no extra labour will be charged but if they are getting the old cover off anyway there ain't really much labour...0
