Virgin outrageous charges for voicemail abroad

Hi, was wondering if anyone can offer any advice. I went on a trip to dublin and activated the roaming Anyway someone kept calling me there while my phone was switched off, no msgs were left, but i am guessing the calls went to voicemail and the caller disconnected without leaving msgs. Anyway i was charged 38 pence each for 30 of these voicemails, no msgs left, was just charged since the calls went to my voicemail. All these amounted to nearly 11 pounds for nothing. I complaint to CS but not help. ANy advice? I think it is really unfair and out of order, since i was not told to deactivate my voicemail when i called to activate the roaming.thanks in advance

The only advice is learn from your mistake! Full details about what to do when travelling abroad are given on their website here and more specifically:
    Set your call diverts
    • When someone reaches your voicemail, you get charged the cost of sending the call to the country you're in, and then back to the UK even though they may not leave a message.
    • But you can get around this - just set your phone to 'divert all calls' to voicemail.
    • However, this does mean that you won't get any incoming calls.
The information regarding not deactivating your voicemail was correct. Switching your phone off is no good unless you have changed your voicemail to divert all calls.
