Your readings are on the way

I am with Octopus Energy, their tracker tariff. Everything has been going smoothly until now. When I log into my account it does not show readings for the last 8 days. It gives me the the message ‘your readings are on the way’. My home display is still showing readings all the time, so I do not understand what could be wrong. Must I bring this issue up with Octopus or wait for them to get in touch with me?

    It can take time for the readings to become available from the smart meter network operator. I think they say "up to a fortnight" in the blurb. The readings on you are IHD are communicated directly between the meter and the IHD, on a different channel.
  • Now I log in and it is showing me just the reading for the 11th for electricity and there is a gap between the 4th and the 11th. It is also saying my usage went down 89 %. I think the gas will appear later with a similar result.

    If you want the half-hourly consumption in "real time", instead of a day behind, it would be worth applying to get an Octopus Home Mini unit. It sends the data straight to the app on your phone. I imagine they'll be adding more features in time.
  • My mini arrived yesterday and I can confirm it’s great fun…ehhhmm…no, hang on, I mean a very useful tool for researching my energy use. Yes, absolutely, that’s it… 😆

    Seriously though - being able to establish exactly what doing certain tasks costs is indeed rather handy.

  • It seems that Octopus are able to take proper 1/2 hour readings again. But I am in £114 credit and when I try ask for a partial refund it says I am unable to do so. Surely if they are able to do the readings, they are are also able to ascertain what my total readings is for both electricity and gas, and therefore able to issue the refund and furthermore for my account to go back to normal?

    Call them, switch to Variable DD but be prepared for higher bills in winter and lower ones in summer.
  • as ive just joined octopus, i`m looking at my usage and the gas is set in m3, the electric is in kw which is what i am wanting for the gas aswell

    Multiply the consumption in m3 by 11.2 and it will be near enough in kWh.

    If you ask to change to variable direct debit whole monthly bill it will use your credit first. 
  • thats a pain, why cant the web designer have it set to kw instead of us humans to calculate it
