www.office.com and use the online version if you don't need advanced features. Its free and Office.2

LibreOffice is the best free alternative to MS Office. Just download it and see what you think. It’s entirely free so you have nothing to lose.

Two things I particularly like about FO: it still has the older non-ribbon interface as a full-featured option. And there are very capable versions for Linux and Android (not sure about the iPhone version as I do not use that).

I also recommend Softmaker's FreeOffice.I've been using it for around 10 years now and have never had a compatibilty problem in any part of it.
(Apart from one spreadsheet that turned out to have a company specific custom macro embeded within it which linked to a different document on the compamy server. So without that other document wouldn't have opened for me even in MS Office).0 -
Thanks guys. Will check out these suggestions. Not sure I fully understand words like interface, macro embedded, etc. but will give it a shot!!0

I've used openoffice for years without complaint. Can't comment on how it compares to the others above.

I used to use LibreOffice and FreeOffice, but I now just use the Google software as it has a word processor, spreadsheet editor, presentation slides etc. They are all free and very easy to use and are stored online so can be accessed from any device.
If you have a Gmail email address you will already have a good account so you can go to Google Drive and get started.1 -
