EON NEXT. Energy offer, I can't see the catch?
Just had an email from Eon Next offering me a deal. Im currently on their Next Flex Tariff and over £500 in debit as then didn't switch my tariff back after the Covid relief. I have copied the offer I have received below and would appreciate any thoughts.

If you qualify, it's a great deal. There's a big long thread on it here:

Lucky you!!! I was asking them about how to qualify for this as I seemed to meet all the criteria but turns out there was a catch. I'm with Eon Next via Sainsburys and we are excluded from this deal.
If I was you I'd grab it with both hands. Keep all the info they send you (cynical me...) in case they back step on some part of it, like saying you have to continue paying at your current rate even though the energy will cost you half the price thus reducing the debit on your account that they need to clear.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Although even that would be a decent deal, getting out of debt much quicker than if paying full price for energy consumed over winter.Brie said:Lucky you!!! It's not the current debt write off at end of offer period.DerwentMailman said:
Get it now - it is a no-brainer. Phone call on Monday morning will see you setup with the 50% tariff + current debt write-off at the end off the period.ali4758 said:Just had an email from Eon Next offering me a deal. I've gone on the offer today after trying since beginning of October and saying I'm eligible. They were saying I'm not.
I'm told they will write off any debt as it was on 30 September 2023 not what it is now.
They set the direct debit at your estimated monthly bill (yearly divided by 12) minus 50% and any use over still has to be paid. So if you pay £150 a month and actual bill is £200 then the £50 extra still has to be paid.0 -
My debt is slightly higher now than at the end of September 2023 so i've not done well, i'd rather it was the debt amount at sign up yesterday. I was told the write off will be the debt amount as it was on 30 September 2023 when they launched the scheme, which makes sense. If they do that then it's the same date for everyone rather than the date of sign up.I agree that that debt write off might be up whatever it was when you started the 50% scheme - that is what I meant. Current debt write off meaning current debt for the OP (and yourself) that will take place at or after the end of the offer period ending 31/3/24. You have done well to get it (current debt) backdated to the position on 30th September considering their own terms specify debt at the point of sign up.
But you're right, they state "with the promise that their debt at the point of sign up will be removed at the end of the term if all payments are made" so i'll need to clarify this.0
