Really! A PS5 uses about 200W and a 55 inch LCD should be no more than 200W as well. Someone has a secret heater on.

Two ps5 and 3 tellies at 200 each is 1,000 Wh so allowing for some lights maybe this is ok …

  • We only get over 1kW if we're cooking, someone's using the electric shower, the heat pump is running, or the brief time using the kettle.

But our actual baseload tends to be frustratingly high at between 370-440W, courtesy of some old freezers and possibly the heat pump being a vampire (I'll know for sure next summer when we turn it off when we're away).  Overnight the internal pump still runs for frost protection now, despite heating and hot water not being on.

The cap price quoted, which is currently £1834, is simply the average price across all the UK regions if you were to use 11500 kWh of gas and 2700 kWh electricity.  This equates to roughly 27.35p for electric and 6.89p for gas, again averaged across all regions.  Those rates are only applicable to paying by direct debit, other payment methods have different rates.
Not sure who uses just 2700kWh of electric in a year. This is just 308 watts per hour over the whole year. Our base load is approx 200Wh when we all asleep!

This is from the Octo Aid iOS app, there is no android version.

It’s an average across all households, so they’ll be plenty of people both above and below that figure. I only used 1600kWh in my first full year at my current home, expecting similar figures again when I check this years total. I’d definitely see what can be done about the baseload though, perhaps the TVs/Consoles can have their settings adjusted to draw less power when in standby? Or turned off altogether if preferred.

The person who thinks 2700 kWh electricity is low is talking nonsense. I use about 1800 kWh electricity a year. Gas use is high to compensate so my bills are not particularly low overall.

Apologies to the OP for the past couple of pages of discussion of individuals' domestic energy use. You will however see from the discussion that energy use is very much lifestyle-dependent, and as the new owner of a 4-bed home you should pay careful attention to it!

No, they are speaking from their own particular experience - as are you when you say your gas use is high - someone else may well come along if they knew your use there and tell you that YOU are talking nonsense as theirs is higher!

Are they all 55 inch TVs? I would expect under a kW from that plus a few lights, router etc
