Setting up new Broadband after relative passed away

Hi, early stages of investigating this at the moment - Family member recently passed so sorting out affairs. Their home is not being sold yet as in the ownershiop of next of kin, so want to keep utilities and services running for now. They were subscribed to a Sky phone, broadband and TV package (as some expense... but they didn't want to change provider). We only want to keep the Broadband and landline going, not interested in the TV.
My understanding is that cancelling Sky will be fairly straightforward in the circumstances and there shouldn't be any cancellation fees. My thinking is the best option would be to ask them to start a new broadband-only subscription for us and persuade them to give us a fair deal (as technically a new customer?) and hope this would mean no interuption to service.
However, if I shop around and find a preferable deal with another provider - do I have to wait for Sky to shut down the old acount and service first? Will there be phone line connection fees to factor in with a new provider if Sky HAVE already stopped the old service?
When I switch my own broadband contracts, the new provider takes care of the switch and cancels with th old provider, but I can't see how that would work in this case because we need to inform Sky of the death of the family member etc etc.
Sorry for the rambling post. Any advice welcome! Thanks.
