Changing name on drivers license?

  • I got married recently and am starting the process of changing my last name to my husband’s.

I picked up a DVLA D1 form from the post office, it asks for my old drivers license, proof of identity and proof of name change - for the latter I have my marriage certificate, for the ID I was going to write my passport number so I don’t have to post a physical copy BUT I haven’t updated my passport yet, it’s still in my maiden name. I feel like this is a bit of a chicken and egg situation, would my passport in my maiden name work? Or do I need to apply for a new passport with my new surname first and then apply for a new drivers license?

    Thanks
often when changing names ona driving licence  it;s quite possible that  the collateral document  will be in the old name as well as the document  that  changes your  name  (marriage certificate in your case, but  could be deed poll or Stat dec in other circumstances)

the DVLA has to  verify it;s you  wanting to  make the application
