Changing name on drivers license?

I got married recently and am starting the process of changing my last name to my husband’s.
I picked up a DVLA D1 form from the post office, it asks for my old drivers license, proof of identity and proof of name change - for the latter I have my marriage certificate, for the ID I was going to write my passport number so I don’t have to post a physical copy BUT I haven’t updated my passport yet, it’s still in my maiden name. I feel like this is a bit of a chicken and egg situation, would my passport in my maiden name work? Or do I need to apply for a new passport with my new surname first and then apply for a new drivers license?
Thanks

no idea of the answer to your question but playing devil's advocate.....why change your name at all?? Because we’re expecting our first child next year and I don’t want a different name to my child as it can cause problems, especially at airports, plus my name is quite unusual and difficult to spell, I much prefer my husbands nameBrie said:no idea of the answer to your question but playing devil's advocate.....why change your name at all?? I think you will have to declare your last name if you want to change it on your IDs. So will probably have to pay for replacements for both0

I have recently done exactly this - just quote your passport number. I do not plan to change my name on my passport until it expires in several years time.rainbow_fountains said:I got married recently and am starting the process of changing my last name to my husband’s.

It also costs a fortune! An unneccesary payment unless it is urgentHelenNoreen said:

Completely agree. Remembering to book travel arrangements in my previous name for the foreseeable is a worthy sacrifice to save £90 odd pounds!DigSunPap said:

Hello - I changed my name and did drivers licence first. The DVLA are quite good at connecting the dots so put your passport number, new name on the licence and send in your marriage certificate and you should be good. Like you, the paperwork comes across like a chicken and egg situation.

Thanks all, yes passport probably the least important as I don’t plan on travelling abroad anytime soon (baby on the way, plus husbands passport has expired) but I’ll do the drivers license1

Good idea, start with the easiest/cheapest first. And congrats on the baby!rainbow_fountains said:Thanks all, yes passport probably the least important as I don’t plan on travelling abroad anytime soon (baby on the way, plus husbands passport has expired) but I’ll do the drivers license0
