So it falls outside of the usual. Retailer printed return slip, that proof of posting = it is deemed as received.
I assume you mean if the retailer arranges the return and has it collected or such and the buyer doesn't really have anything to do with return process then the bank would deem it "delivered" to the retailer when handed over?

Sadly not. It would need proof it has been delivered to retailer. So simply dropping it off with a pre paid slip, would not count as delivered.
Just the same as proof of posting does not mean it has been delivered, as far as chargebacks go.

however is what you could say to the bank is that you complied with the retailer's return process in every respect i.e packed up the item, stuck their label on it and handed it to their chosen courier

Sorry I meant if the buyer doesn't get any kind of label and a courier just turns up and takes the parcel?

    Same again.
The sender needs proof of delivery.

It's like a customer saying they did not get the goods but retailer has proof of delivery. That is all is required to win the chargeback 👍

Chargebacks are not based on consumer regulations.
I could even see a S75 failing if retailer is correct in the message to OP & they have it stated in their T/C on the insurance refund on lost returns. Unless you pay extra.

The only way OP would win this via chargeback is via proof of delivery. Which they do not have.

So unless OP can provide details of retailer & their T/C on returns. All we are stuck with is their message they sent to them stating they should have paid extra for full value insurance.🤷‍♀️
