Hi there,

Can anyone help, as we are trying to find insurance for my daughter who is 19.  Her current insurer (Hastings) are not renewing and we are struggling with getting a quote for her for the coming year.  The car is a Vauxhall Astra 2014 plate.  The car was gifted to her when she passed her test October 2022 and her grandad changed his car.

Unfortunately she does have a fault claim from last year where she hit a parked third party in Tesco car park. We have declared this when doing the quote.

We have exhausted all avenues with price comparison sites - the quotes come up and when we have gone to go ahead with the quotes, we get a message saying to contact them as they need more information.  Obviously the quotes are expensive - we have managed to get quotes for just over £300 a month, but get this same message.  Adrian Flux will insure her, but for over £800 a month.

We're running out of options - Tried all the price comparison sites.  Quote me happy keeps coming up, but they won't insure her because she's under 21 apparently.  Tried direct line and churchill and they won't offer quotes.

Unless we can find something she will have to take the car off the road.

Thanks in advance.

does it help if she adds another driver to the policy?

As above.  Add an older driver (s) with clean record and see what happens.

My sister is on her son's girlifriend's insurance even though she will never drive the car.  It reduced the cost significantly.

we have tried adding her Dad for some of them and it didn't make much difference.

    Can try this again.

Add a female, parent or grandparent.  Even though there were big issues about equality it still often comes out
cheaper adding an older female driver to the police compared to a male.

Unfortunately, there isn't a another female driver we can add to the policy.

So what happens when you do as requested and contact them, do the quoted prices still stand or do they increase or decline cover altogether?

it’s the same number that comes up for Quote me happy and General Accident. She’s tried calling and the call just gets ended.

She went to the brokers that her Grandad uses and they quoted her £11k 😱

we’re out of ideas - I have told her that she may have to face up to getting rid of this car and save up for a cheaper one. (Will check she can get Insurance first).

Obviously she’s really upset about it.

This is not likely to be the main cause of the premium cost.

Her age and having an at fault claim is the most likely cause

    - saving up for a bike might be more appropriate sadly
