Some switches require the full card number, others just ask for the last 4 digits.
Just wait for the card. It will only take a week.

You can view the 16 digit card number and CVC from the app so I can't see why you would need a physical card.

Just be aware that Monzo will block you from future attempts to open an account with them in the foreseeable future.
Thats incorrect, my records show I opened a Monzo account 16th June also 18th October.

the second time I had to go through customer services email, once they answered I had to upload a photo of me holding my ID (driving licence)

I am switching that account to Nationwide once the direct debits are active

They didn't let me open another account after switching the first away. They took over a week to reply to the support request then passed me on to someone else who took another week and then said "no"!

I even had a letter from them telling me “ unfortunately we won’t be able to welcome you back in the foreseeable future” when I switched mine away.

It seems some you win some you lose. However  It did take a couple of weeks I admit

Maybe it’s HOW you used the account before switching?

I created purely as a donor account. If you opened one and genuinely used the account before switching maybe they allow you back?

    Just a theory….

Thats the reason I opened the first and the second, to switch, never had more than £10 in credit and weren't open long

Maybe you spoiled it for all the rest of us  (joke)   :D

I've no problem with them refusing me an account. It's their right to do so and I'm not exactly a valuable customer!
I can't remember what account opened instead. Probably another Metro account.
  • So why is Monzo the best candidate for a donor account? Is it because they never offer any deals when you switch to them?

I already have an account with Starling which is my main account and I don't want to leave them. But I can open a second account with them: https://help.starlingbank.com/personal/topics/setting-up-an-account/opening-additional-accounts/

Would it be possible to open a second account and then use the Current Account Switch service to close that second account and only that one?

I think that's why people suggest them. I'd say they are a bad choice for a donor account as they have one of the best apps around and are a great choice for your main account.
