Monzo account to use as a dummy account for switching - How long to wait?

A friend has just this afternoon opened a Monzo account for the sole purpose of using it as a dummy account to switch to another provider - such as First Direct or HSBC.

How quickly can they go ahead with switching to another provider, considering this account has only just been opened this afternoon ?

Thanks in advance

When they get the debit card, about a week

What takes the most time is setting up direct debits if needed

Why is it necessary to wait for the debit card?

Do they need the physical debit card with Monzo when they issue a virtual card ? - Can't you just use that for the switch ?

Planning on going with one that doesn't require DDs initially.

I'd be very interested to know if this is necessary too.  Or is the virtual Monzo card sufficient for this ?

You can view the 16 digit card number and CVC from the app so I can't see why you would need a physical card.

Just be aware that Monzo will block you from future attempts to open an account with them in the foreseeable future.

You don’t need a physical card. I have done it with the digits on the app. From memory I was only shown the last 4 and the switch wanted last 5. I just made the extra digit up as no payments from the card needed to move. Switch went through no problem.

That is OK, thanks.  It is the virtual card number that we can see in the app, is that correct ?  Or should we be able to view the physical card number and CVC in the app ?

I've just double checked. The card details that you see in the app are identical to the details of the physical card.

Thank you for checking - We are only see part of the details, I think it is because we need to wait to activate the physical card.  Not sure if the virtual card would work for this purpose, or do what the other poster suggested - or just wait for the card.

I've had my account for years so I can't remember the setup process but I'm pretty sure you will have to input the CVC from the physical card to complete the account opening process.

Under the circumstances I think you will have to wait for the card to arrive before you can do anything.
