Installing a smart thermostat

As long as you're not breaking the combustion chamber seal, you can take the cover off. and the wiring terminals for are never going to be located inside the combustion chamber as far as I know0 -
Looking at the video - if that is the same boiler - it does look as tho' the whole boiler body comes off as one! Front panel and sides. This reveals an open upper chamber. So, according to that, it doesn't appear DIY. Or even a non-GS sparky job!
Carpy design if correct.0 -
Surely there is no way a cover that big that has 4 screws holding it is a sealed combustion chamber cover.Living the dream in the Austrian Alps.0

I suspect not. But I ain't going to speculate further as I don't know for sure.chris_n said:Surely there is no way a cover that big that has 4 screws holding it is a sealed combustion chamber cover.
If Leard is electrically competent enough for the wiring task and fancies doing this, then he needs to ask WB first, or even ask a GS.0 -
Presumably you already have a 'dumb' thermostat wired in. Depending on what exactly you have the work needed to switch may not require going near the boiler. I replaced an old 24hr programmable stat with a Drayton wiser - all the wiring was in place so no need to touch the boiler - I gather in some cases back plates match so no need to even rewire. One word of caution though the original stat may not have been wired by the book so some working out may be necessary.Leard91 said:ThisIsWeird said:Pretty clear that the main front cover does not need to be removed at all.Press in and release the control cover, and it'll pop down. The control panel behind is held by a single screw along its top. Undo, and the whole control panel will hinge downwards.
Having looked and tried to find out how to do this, I don't think I can access the electrical panel without taking the main cover off. In the image from the manual, you can see the main cover isn't on.
*EDIT* Just seem your other thread where you say the boiler has no external thermostat, given that, this is a job for a competent person. The cover on your boiler seals around the combustion chamber so would not class as a cosmetic cover.

Do you have some sort of timer that controls the off/on periods of your heating? If so then the tado receiver can replace that.
Our boiler had such a thing wired in just next to it and my OH has fitted a tado system with a wireless room stat starter kit and 12 smart TRVs, works very well. Shop around for the best prices.

What controls unit and thermostat do you currently have? If your current system is a central controller type like a Drayton or Honeywell then it is literally just a case of attaching a new bracket and about 4 or 5 wires to it and then attaching the new control receiver unit. (Obviously make sure you turn off the power to the heating system first!)Leard91 said:I'm interested in purchasing a smart thermostat for my boiler, specifically the TADO V3+ Wireless Heating & Hot Water Smart Thermostat. The boiler is a Worcester Greenstar 28i Junior. How easy can I expect to find installing this? Tado claim that it's easy to install and that they provide you with the instructions. However, I also recognise that the boiler is fairly old, and might not be compatible. What would installation actually involve?
The control/ receiver unit is literally just a switch, controlled by the wireless thermostat and / or a hub.
Is your boiler a combi?

Spurred by the various "smart thermostat" threads like this one, I've just bought a semi-smart ZigBee thermostat (this sort of thing) to add to my home automation network. It's going to be replacing a 20-year-old Drayton RTS.I'll let you know how it goes!N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile.
