No thermstat on boiler. Is it possible to install one?

Options
I've moved into a new home, and the combi boiler doesn't have a room thermostat. It has a dial on the front of the boiler for changing the temperature, but it's a system of 1-6 rather than actually picking a temperature.

I'd like to have a smart thermostat installed. However, without even a normal thermostat, I'm not sure if that's even possible. Most of the radiators in the house have dials on them as well.

It's a Worcester Greenstar 28i Junior, and looks like this:

I'm 99% sure this will work. See this thread for a cheaper option without HW control - Worcester MT10RF Mechanical Timer Thermostat

Thanks, this is useful. However, that is as expensive as buying a smart thermostat. If I were to buy a smart thermostat, how easy would it be to install myself? Would my boiler currently be able to connect to one, or would I need to get it installed?

Big green drawing on the front of the boiler shows how to link it to a thermostat. As long as your new smart thermostat can switch 240V AC to demand heat, it should work with this boiler. Not sure how the existing timer would affect things, but I suspect it is easy enough to disable.

You have to remove the case it seems, So needs a Gas safe person?  Probably a 20min job when its being serviced.

You could also just use a marker pen to mark 21c.

This is for changing the boiler flow temperature, which is completely separate from any room thermostat system.

The higher the boiler flow temperature, the hotter the radiators get, so the house will heat up quicker from cold. On the other hand a lower boiler flow temperature will mean the boiler will work more efficiently. So it is a trade off. For my Worcester boiler I have estimated that 3.5 = 55 to 60 degrees, which is OK for current sort of weather. When it gets colder you probably want to turn it up to 4 or 4.5.

This is the CH water temperature. The OP wants a room thermostat.

Learn, how electrically competent are you. Can you wire a plug with your eyes closed?
And do you have a preferred Smart prog stat?

It certainly looks that way. If it were possible to access the terminal block without removing the casing, I'd say "go ahead". But the minute you remove the casing, you need to be Gas Safe registered. I doubt it would take an engineer more than 5 minutes to hook up two bits of wires, so, yes, get the connection made during a service.

I can wire a plug under mains voltage, but never tried this with my eyes closed.... :p
