ISA transfer missing pending interest for month

I'm going through an ISA transfer from one of Monzo accounts to another provider. I've noticed they've transferred the amount that was in my ISA account and skipped transfer of the months interest, (which apparently they've told me will be tax free)  but they won't transfer as part of the ISA transfer.

It's awkward because they've transferred on the same date the payment came in is that normal practice? I feel like I've just lost out on the entire months interest into my ISA and instead it'll go into the current account

As a side question what happens to year long ISA interest payments, if you do an ISA transfer?

What was your instruction to the new provider, i.e. did you specify a fixed amount to be transferred (that happened to be the balance at the time) or that the account was to be emptied and closed?

Every time I've transferred an ISA I have specified the the total amount which will close the account.  Never put a specific amount as that is all they will transfer.  I doubt you have lost the interest you'll find they will either pay it to your nominated account or the money is still in the ISA and the ISA is still open

I said the full amount and the provider (moneybox) asked for an estimated amount within the account currently.

I didn't realise that meant without the interest, the same form done from another bank (NatWest)baby a family member but NatWest gave the interest to transfer date.

So I'm wondering what's the correct approach?

Also they have closed the ISA, and want to put it in my current account.

  • The transfer process is managed by your new provider (Moneybox) so they must have given Monzo the wrong instructions.  If that was their mistake they might be able to correct it.  If it was your mistake then you'll have to accept it.  You need to complain to Moneybox, not Monzo.

    I mean where's the mistake that's what I'm asking.

The process doesn't say anywhere about what to do with interest hence my question here. Like according to previous posters a full transfer should have transferred the full amount plus interest and closed the previous account.

Monzo savings pots are another third party so I don't know if it's just a case of not really thinking ahead.

Also if monzo got the wrong instructions to only transfer a fix amount they shouldn't have closed my savings pot then, but they did so I'm thinking this is definitely monzos fault with the current knowledge
  • Even if it's Monzo's fault, I think you should approach your new provider, tell them what went wrong and ask them to request your remaining funds.
