Just to say folks, the above is genuine, and as you can see above there'd even be a plug for the site in there, so I'm very happy if you guys want to do it. It's your chance to spread the Old Style word!

Maybe its the cynic in me, but after seeing the treatment the participants on The Real Good Life got, I would be reluctant to get involved in any show - editing is a very dangerous tool. The fact that the series is about 'what people enjoy doing' would make me even more cautious - are they deliberately choosing subjects that others will think are odd or people that might appear (with the right editing) a bit obsessive?

More info would be interesting - what is the show's perspective on the subject, for example.

I wouldn't put it down as condescending too quickly folks. The point is they're not MoneySavers you are -so how can they be expected to know what you do. Of course there are no promises about the editing, but Shine are a legit company, I would think (hope) it would aim to show what Old Style is about.

Although I don't fit any of the criteria, I don't find it condesending or patronising that they do have a criteria, however I don't think you will find many people on here who will publically announce that they might be interested in outing themselves in a television programme.

After all as seen on the boards here after any "money makeover" type programme there are many users who will critisise the people concerned for spending too much money, spending it in the wrong way, spending too little money, horror of horror using credit cards, or not using credit cards etc etc.

Although this programme is different in that it is to be about someone who saves money rather than spending money, for sure they will be dammed for going about it in the wrong way or for going OTT! So who in their right mind is going to put themselves up for that the following day?

Mind you as the programme is to be on Sky and Sky is the first thing users are told to get rid of if saving money, there won't be many people from here who will actually be able to watch it :rotfl:

The obvious response to "none of these tv shows actually demonstrate saving money"...is to do one ourselves, and here is the opportunity. Don't think that I'd be the best person for the job though as I'm only partially old style and am just getting to grips with all the tips.

Call me sceptical, but tv production companies do not make programmes because they want to show examples of fine upstanding citizens. Extreme behaviour = high viewing figures = more money. In the same patronising way that families in debt are made out to be foolish spendthrifts who cannot be trusted with a fiver, I imagine a frugal person will be portrayed as a nerdish scrooge obsessed with Asda "whoopsies!" & overcome by vinegar fumes. Average behaviour doesn't make good reality TV, so an awful lot will be left on the cutting room floor.

    Martin/ Alice,

Can you give some examples of TV programs Shine have produced already so that everyone can get an idea of what the program will be like?

Not that I'll have seen them, as EdinburghLass says, when I became an OTT, obsessive complusive, old style money saving maniac, I got rid of sky first :rotfl:
