EE Mobile/Apple Watch Contract

I am looking for some advice after speaking to EE today, Monday 30th October. I have thought for some time, I have been paying for my apple watch for almost 4 years at £28 per month, and I will get in touch with EE to discuss this. I did today, to be told my contract ended in December 2022. So, as you would I asked how my overpayment would be refunded, and they said it would not, it was up to me to cancel the contract, and not them. This is not sitting well with me, I explained when I upgraded to a new mobile phone in November 2022, this was not discussed with me or was I advised my apple watch contract, which is connected to the mobile phone was coming to an end. I received my new watch and contract, and the apple watch was not on it. The customer service advisor told me they text me in December 2022, to advise me of this, I have no record of the text and if I had received a text to tell me my apple watch is no longer going to be charge, I most certainly would have cancelled the contract.
Does anyone have any advice? The contract is now cancelled, and they refunded 1 month's payment 'in goodwill'.

Yes - I've had basically the same conversation with EE.  They actually said that they weren't allowed to warn of a contract ending as it looks like they are trying to sell you a new contract and implied that was illegal.  Fortunately I caught this within a month or two of the end and they sorted it for me.

What exactly was your contract for the Watch - was it
    a) a fixed £X cost that was financed over Y months ending Dec22, or
    b) a £X monthly contract minimum term until Dec22 which came with a free watch

The maths might be roughly the same, but they're legally different.
  • Saajan_12, I would need to try and find my contract to be sure, the apple watch was a promotion 'get this iPhone and apple watch for only...' they were both part of the same contract, so when my iPhone came up for renewal the apple watch would have too. I did not upgrade the watch only my iPhone as I assumed the watch would just end, it didn't, and I did not give it another thought until recently.

That's true in general for any mobile contract. Your contract didn't 'end' in Dec  '22, only its minimum term ended. It continues to run unless cancelled. EE usually do send a text towards the end I believe.

They do, and in the run up offering an early upgrade
  • Thank you all for your comments, it is just so frustrating that they did not discuss it with me during my upgrade. I have to accept it is what it is. When my contract ends, I will be buying my mobile phone outright and am currently looking for a new apple watch: smile:

wow basically £1344 for an apple watch! Best advice would be for everyone to diarise when contracts end.

I don't think theres alot you can do to be honest. You could try putting in a complaint but explain you are seeing if anyone higher up can offer any refund but it would be a gesture of good will. I did this with travel insurance that I didn't use due to the wildfires in Greece earlier in the year and they offered a credit so its worth trying IMO.
