& to follow up on Herzlos's point above re fossil fuel sources - only around 35% of the UK's grid mix is fossil fuels and this is on a steady downward trend. Gas turbine power stations are also *much* more efficient than the ICE engine in your car (around 50% compared to 10-15%). So combined with all the other points mentioned by Herzlos above - The emission benefits are very substantial even with fossil fuels still involved in the grid mix.3

Thats all well and good, but you'd struggle to drive a CCGT power station to the shops for a loaf of breadMacPingu1986 said:& to follow up on Herzlos's point above re fossil fuel sources - only around 35% of the UK's grid mix is fossil fuels and this is on a steady downward trend. I think you've misread or misunderstood my post. I was explaining that even where electricity for an EV is derived from a fossil fuel source (in the UK almost always a CGGT), this is at much higher efficiencies than an ICE engine.lemondrops69 said:

I think that was his point - you can't make ICE any more efficient in the car, but you can move the combustion to a more efficient plant and then transfer it to the car.
