I submitted my application in late November and it was granted in late January. I’d checked the evening before Probate was granted and it was still at the ‘documents received’ step. At about 0830 the following morning I got the email stating that Probate had been granted. I logged back in and sure enough it seemed to have skipped the ‘application in review’ step.

My application was straightforward; my husband’s will was only a few years old and he left everything to me except a few sentimental items and a charitable donation. It had been drawn up by a solicitor, correctly witnessed, etc. I suspect the ‘application in review’ step is when there is a hold up of some kind or it needs looking at by a supervisor, etc.

I received the Grant of Probate in the post the next day, so it all happened quite quickly for me compared to a lot of other people.
Thank you, I would use the webchat but that is down at the moment and trying to get through to a human is near impossible : I submitted everything 29/11 uploaded further details mid February but nothing since - in reality it should be granted by now as its only bank accounts no property. can only hope It is soon.

I hope it all works out for you soon. It’s really difficult when these things drag on. I know I found it difficult and I didn’t have a long length of time to wait.

My husband had a rental property from before we married, various bank accounts, investments, and both a workplace and private pension. But his Will was really straightforward and didn’t actually list these assets (although I obviously had to input the figures relating to the value of the estate in the application). My situation may have been simplified because if my husband had died intestate I’d still have inherited as his spouse. But no one really knows why some applications are stopped and others that are just as straightforward aren’t. It’s really just a guessing game in some situations.

    Hello
Thank you for replying - I have now had a response and they want the original document which is the renunciation form - the solicitor has come off and you would think he would of known to send us the original with the "wet" signatures - this was 5 weeks ago - not happy now I have to chase the solicitor for this document all adding to the stress of it all - I have printed off their email as they are apologising for not telling us this in early February so hopefully whoever see's the document and email will deal with it promptly.

I think it is all pot luck whose gets paused like you say! to see what documents and info they require in one hit not keep going for weeks then asking for further information. This should all be sorted out by now and the estate distributed - we have had the stone mason for instance wanting his money when he already agreed to wait for the probate to be granted so we have had to find that!
Just want an end to it all

I’m not an expert on this and my husband’s funeral, headstone, etc was paid by the MOD because he died in Service, so I have no personal experience with handling funeral related expenses (other than some things the MOD wouldn’t cover such as flowers). But, I would have thought a stonemason for a headstone would be considered a funeral expense and therefore you should be able to make this payment by liaising with the bank you wish to withdraw funds from to make the payment. They may insist on making the payment directly to ensure it is indeed funeral related.

My FiL just died and had prepaid for his funeral. However, he died in a care home in Somerset but the funeral is in Reading. The bank refused to release the funds to cover the extra cost of transporting his body from Somerset to Yeovil as it wasn't a funeral expense. They said just claim it back from the estate.
