Barclays App compulsory move to paperless to CONTINUE to account information

Interested that Barclays App "loading checking preferences" doesn't ask my preference but forces you to go paperless by pressing CONTINUE to get to your account information.
I know I want to stay with paper but I have to go paperless to use the app and then reset to go back to paper. That's not checking my preferences that's forcing an action I don't want.
Any idea when this annoying compulsory landing page will be removed?

Ermmmm..........never?
It costs money to produce and send paper statements. Barclays, like most banks, are cutting costs to the bone.

I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.7 -
Just print them yourself if you want a paper copy, most peoplle are fine without and just store the electronic copy in their OneDrive etc.

I'm with you on wanting paper copies on some accounts, especially for credit cards, where it is important to know when and how much was paid. These same people may have to endure a much poorer postal service in the future unless Royal Mail is supported. We live in a remote village that has poor communication via opereach. We have to walk 200 yards up the village to get a mobile signal. It's all right others mithering on about saving paper, but some of us need those paper copies. YBS insisted, just last week, that I had to prove my ID by sending them paper documents.I had the same palaver with Barclays. A complaint will hopefully resolve the problem, it usually does, and sometimes an extra £25.1

IT goes on to say (because I got this today too) that you can go into settings and then switch paper back on - my credit card with them has always been paperless so I have no reason to do this - have you tried?0

This is from the e-mail I received

Lloyds Bank just sent me an email explaining they are doing the same thing. Blaming it on ‘problems’ but a little suspicious when the cap on banker’s bonuses has been scrapped.0

Of course, in common with any successful business, they are eager to save on unnecessary costs wherever they can... there was a thread on this elsewhere on the board where there was a suggestion there was some environmental target they might struggle to meet, and this is a knee-jerk to get that down. That one rings truer for my mind...5 -
I have just tried to log in to Barclays online banking and would be forced to go paperless if I continued to our account. My account is held jointly with my husband who does not use the internet or a mobile phone. We have printed statements so that he knows the details of our financial matters.
We used to be able to pop down to the bank to print off a statement before they closed most of the branches.
I assume this login page will disappear at some point or that there will be some escape route. I'm not holding my breath.

There is an argument now that printing documents should be a chargeable service given all the information is available digitally and can be seen in app, browser etc - along with real time transactions, waiting for the end of a month and then waiting for a paper statement to turn up is risking fraud going unnoticed plus the security / ID risk of paper statements.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
