Data and voice Sim for Samsung Android tablet

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra with a sim only plan from Plusnet - which uses the EE network

Plusnet mobile is closing, so I have to find an alternative

I have been told by Three, on more than one occasion, that I can only have a data only Sim for the tablet

 - and that I would need a separate Sim for a phone

 

However, yesterday we put my wife's Three Sim in the Samsung Galaxy tablet and were able to:

1) make a phone call

2) receive a phone call

3) access the internet over the 5g service

So it seems that a Three sim will provide all the services that other sims provide, and that there is no restriction

I'm looking for advice / help / experiences related to this

For example, if I sign up for a Three sim, will I find either the phone service or data service stops working after a while

A few years ago, I asked in my local EE shop about a SIM for a tablet. They said there no data only SIM's. You get a SIM and it can be used for both functions as long as the device supports that function.

As you found with your wife's SIM and your tablet.

Caveat: I was asking about an Apple tablet which as you know has no phone capabilities.

No idea why that happened to the OP on the thread to which you linked.

I think it should be Ok
Just had a reply on the Three Community forum to the effect that there should be no issues using a tablet that has phone functionality with a Three SIM

I seem to remember once putting a Three SIM in a Windows tablet computer and a Three webpage appeared informing me that I couldn't use it. Any other SIM  worked fine.

On the other hand I have for the last few years been using a couple of Three 'Data Reward' SIMs in my Huawei M5 tablet with full mobile data and voice service, so such restrictions may be a thing of the past.

Such 'data' SIMs from three do have a phone number and can be used for everything, in my experience. An assistant in a Three shop did not believe me when I told her this several years ago, until I asked her to call my number and my phone rang...
