Our prior Merc had the AMG Line optional extra but that didn't appear in the official model name in our year, in the following year after a minor update the AMG Line became a standard feature and it was added to the model name.0 -
It's that the insurance companies aren't listing the exact model, so it can't be insured, so can't be registered to get a V5C.
It's a new model or trim that has yet to make it to the list the insurance companies use.
So for example:
A C Class "AMG C43 4matic Premium Plus" might be listed.
But not the "AMG C63 e 4matic+ Night Edition Premium Plus" (a bit of a mouthful)
If insurance companies can't find it on their list, it makes it hard to insure.
Without it being insured, it can't be registered as it needs to be taxed as well.

To register a new vehicle a V55/4 needs filling in and filing with DVLA.
The V55/4 is actually called " Application for first vehicle tax and registration of a new motor vehicle"
It either needs taxing there at the same time or sorn'd at the same time.
See form V355/4.
To tax a vehicle it needs insurance on it.
So to tax and register it, it needs insurance.
The usual thing is a dealer will assign a reg number from a pre approval list so the new owner can insure it.
That reg number and car are yet to be married but if the model, engine and trim are listed on the insurance database there is no real issue to get a policy.
If there is no pre assigned reg number for it because it's not from a dealer, it can be insured on the chassis number for a short time, but the insurer will still want to know the model/trim/engine etc to underwrite a policy.
(once it's registered and a number issued, you then update the insurance with the number)
Some new cars come with free 7 days insurance, this speeds up the process as they aren't having to wait for the new owner to get insurance to get it registered.
Again, the insurance company need to know what the car actually is. If they have no details of that model/trim/engine it can't be insured.
As this particular vehicle model/trim/engine isn't yet on the insurance database list and the reg number is meaningless until it's registered, the new owner and dealer now has a problem insuring it to get it registered and taxed.
The reg number relates to no car so doesn't pop up a vehicle on any systems database.
The insurance company haven't the model/trim/engine on their system to underwrite a policy for it.
For some reason, some Mercedes models/trims/engines don't make their way onto the insurance database lists promptly.
Why I don't know for sure, but that is the way it is and causes some new owners a massive headache.0 -
So what'd stop the dealer registering the car as SORN, getting it into the system, and then OP can insure it, tax it and drive it away?
