My adult autistic daughter who lives with me has received a letter from HM Government indicating she is entitled to a £150.00 energy bill discount, which will be automatically applied to her energy account.
However, I pay all the bills and all are in my name.ther
Am I able to claim or somehow transfer this discount?
Son had this letter  and had an email from my energy firm it would be on my next bill. He is not on my bill but neither is my husband, i have always had to claim it. Because son is on benefits and lives at home he is entitled to this. I had it last year and was confused as we became pensioners and weren't entitled any more.

So you didn't need to claim it or contact your energy supplier this time? Your energy supplier contacted you to say you would get it?
I got this last year because my son was on benefits, and my house was deemed hard to heat. I  received an email from my energy company to say it would be applied to my account. I queried it with them as I didn't think I should qualify as my son wasn't on the account, but was informed it was government money and they were told which accounts to apply the credit to. So no applying, it all happened automatically, rightly or wrongly.

I'm the account holder and always have been for all bills but for some reason the govt WHD letters are addressed to my partner who's never been the 'bill payer'. The discount is still applied to the account as it's on the address.
  • I have just had an email from Octopus to say £150 has been credited to my account.
How long has this been going on for? I have a feeling I have been missing out in the past.
  • The scheme changed last year to remove the disability or vulnerability element and just focus on low income.  But this year they have lowered the property high costs threshold, so more people should get it this year than were entitled to it last year.

Did your daughter claim a means-tested benefit and disability benefit before August 2021?  If so, then it's possible you maybe missed out, but I think they were stricter before on it having to be the account holder or their partner who qualified.  Whereas now with basically just address matching (in most cases), not so much.
  • Got this email half an hour ago:

"We’re pleased to let you know your Warm Home Discount rebate has been processed. A payment of £150 was added to your electricity account on to help towards your electricity bills, and you’ll see this payment on your next bill or statement"

IIRC this is a change. Fairly sure I had to apply in past.

No, not if you receive the Guarantee credit part of pension credit.

If you get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit

You qualify for the discount if on 13 August 2023 all of the following applied:

This is known as being in the ‘core group 1’ in England and Wales. In Scotland, it is the ‘core group’.

I had a letter saying I qualify about a month ago, been worrying about when Octopus would acknowledge this as all it says on the website is it will be credited some time between October and March or somethin. Got the same email from Octopus today and my credit balance has been credited :)

Depends when you became a pensioner and when you became entitled to Pension Credit.  (I'm not clear on the timeline but from your thread it sounded *relatively* recent.)

As I said the scheme was changed by summer last year, which in England and Wales meant a complete overhaul of it including taking away the need for anyone to claim (and also took away a clear pathway for people to claim if they feel through the gaps, but that's another issue).
However people entitled to Pension Credit already got it automatically under the previous scheme.

Ah, I see. This is the first year we've qualified on that basis.
