Sign up for Netflix in another country and watch in the UK?

I saw Netflix has stopped the "basic" plan in the UK. But it's still available in Europe. Can I use a VPN + European credit card to sign up for that plan, and then just use it in the UK? Or will Netflix block my account or ask me to change to a UK payment method and standard plan?

Netflix are getting pretty hot at trapping users signing in from different connections to the main account.
If you've got access to a current UK account, try logging in to it through a VPN in another country and see what happens.

I subscribe through Turkey using Express VPN - have been for a couple of years. If i remember correctly I had to pay for 1 month in the UK - saving the card details. I then jumped to Turkey and subscribed using my saved card. Not had any issue and pay £3.95 for the top package.

I signed up whilst physically in another country to the local Netflix service using my UK card (Starling, no FX fees) and giving my UK address. To date they continue to charge me the non-UK rate and a few years on have never said anything. Obv get UK Netflix when at home unless I use a VPN to appear elsewhere.

If they do ultimately say it has to be changed to the UK then that's fine, still saved a few quid a month for a few years.
  • Some good points, thank you. I've cancelled my current subscription and will try to sign up "from Germany" next month. It's not even cheaper really, it's just that they still have the "basic" plan and that's all I need really.
