Whilst organisations in the banking industry maybe on board in dealing with PDF copies of statements, there are other organisations that are not on board.
In the past few years I had to provide paper statements to my stockbroker and CFD provider to prove the account to which I wanted to withdraw money. I didn't ask if there was a way around that and complied.
I haven't opened a new account recently but those organisations that provide savings accounts linked to your current account, do they not also need paper proof of the account from which the money is provided and returned?
So yes I still need paper statements as far as I know.
Edited to add: after posting, I thought this statement might be better in the equivalent thread in the banking and budgeting board. I then read that thread and decided it didn't have the same context as this thread so am keeping this post here.
    HTH
But this thread is about credit card statements, so I'd suggest that, as your point relates to requirements for current account ones, it would be better in the other thread!

By my reading this thread veered into or at least touched upon current accounts.
Also the other thread was specifically about Lloyds whereas in my view this discussion was more general.
And that thread was more about the logistics of providing paper statements.
This thread talked about using statements as proof of ID.
Which is why I decided to keep my post here. Thank you for your suggestion though.

With an official credit card statement the shop cannot refuse this as a proof of purchase.
Which (formerly the Consumers' Association) tell their subscribers twaddle like that.  They also used to tell them that a cheque stub could be used as proof of purchase, when anybody could tear a blank cheque out of their cheque book, and write whatever company name and amount they liked on the stub, and hey presto, they'd got proof of purchase!

That was one of the reasons I cancelled my subscription to Which years ago.  If they could tell people rubbish like that, how unreliable was the rest of their advice?

Some used to do that, yes, but I don't know of any which still do.  These days we have Confirmation of Payee which confirms the account holder's name.
  • a credit card statement *might* provide some supporting evidence of proof or purchase in case of a dispute but it's hardly definitive.

But an electronic version can also do that - and perhaps more?

OP is perhaps just resistant to change, as many people are.
  • I do have sympathy with the Original Poster.
Although I have gone paperless - I would like the option of getting a paper copy from my bank Halifax if it was necessary.
This has also happened to my pay statement from my workplace.
I prefer the old fashion payslips where you had to tear along the sides to open.
They seem so much more professional than downloading a bland pdf from the company website

I don't believe I've seen anything that says that they're withdrawing the facility to get a paper copy from them if necessary, just that they're not going to let people continue to receive all of them this way?

I can't recall when I last had to do that. It would've been years ago.
  • I don't own a printer, so sometimes its not as simple as if I have online capability I can print my own off.
Am in same boat. Halifax emailed me to say I am no longer having a paper statement sent to me.
And yes, I really don't own a printer. Never seen the need for one
  • I have today received paper statements from both Lloyds and Halifax credit cards and I have not received any e-mails about this.
