I remember a case on BBC Watchdog ( or something like that ) , a Sky customer was offered something unbelievable , something the agent said ‘lightheartedly’ was that they were so confident of delivering on the quoted day , ‘ if we don’t supply service on the day , I’ll make sure you get £100 per day compensation until it is installed’
Service was delayed, the consumer contacted the TV program because the compensation provided was in line with the T&C’s , and not the agents stated terms ,
The programme made a huge song and dance about it , they even had a senior Sky executive on the programme, who stated although the ‘offer’ was not legally binding ( it was something in the order of £1000 ) but as a gesture of goodwill they would pay the customer that amount because it’s wasn't disputed what the agent said, but they stated it was ‘banter’ , and legally this didn’t trump the T&C’s that were sent to the customer.
At that point even the programme host looked embarrassed because it was pretty clear the compensation was disproportionately generous for the ‘injury’ the consumer had suffered ,it simply made both the programme and the Sky customer look ‘money grubbing’ ,
I dare say the probable consequence of that episode was likely to be the dismissal of the agent that made the ludicrous offer in the first place .0 -
Update
I sent a letter on 26th October asking BT to resolve the matter or I would take it to the ombudsman.
6 November, received a call and after about 40 mins managed to get to £10/month for BT Sport (not £18.75). They tried to get me to swap to a digital landline (said it wasn't possible to process the request unless I did) but I also managed to dodge this by just refusing.
I didn't get the BT Sport free but I was at least given the next best offer they made during original renewal call (despite being told during my last phone call to them that this was not possible).
I just hope the next bill matches what was agreed on the phone this time.
Thanks for the helpful suggestions.2 -

You can defer a switch to a digital line if you stay with the same provider, but that's only temporary, there will come a point where you will be migrated regardless. Your number will move to the new service.1
