BT Sport

Plusnet added CPI plus 3.9% (14.4%) as with many internet providers from the 1st April. I was charged £10 for BT Sport for which they added the 14.4%. However, when they discontinued BT Sport from July they have only taken £10 off the bill, so customers are still paying the 14.4% on the £10. Has anyone else had the same experience? Surely they should be taking off the total amount as they also claim the internet and BT Sport were always two separate contracts which is why they could cancel without notice and within the internet contract.

Doesn't surprise me - lots of people on discounted deals, found that PN hadn't applied the increase correctly in April, charging the increase on the full price - I got a small rebate a couple of months ago when they finally sorted the calculation error out. Their billing system has never been reliable !!

They didn’t discontinue BT Sport , it was rebranded to TNT Sport , are you saying you took the opportunity to ask for ‘sport’ to be removed from your package ( presumably it was separate item on the Plusnet bill ) in the time you had ‘sport’ , the original £10 charge had increased to £11.44 but there is still a £1.44 charge somewhere , if so , where on the bill does it appear as I would think if there isn’t a separate charge on the bill for ‘sport’ anymore, then how can the still be charging for it   ?
As far as sport is concerned it’s an add on , so should be able to be added and removed, but obviously if an initial ‘deal’ incorporated it into a discounted price for a package it’s then part of the minimum term , so it depends on what basis it was taken
  • BT Sport was made unavailable through Plusnet as part of your internet subscription. Plusnet cancelled all subscriptions to BT Sport and does not offer any subscription to TNT Sport which replaced it when Warner bought it. However, they still charge customers the CPI +3.9% for a service they don't offer anymore.

I’m still not sure I follow , you had BT Sport added  for £10 extra ( which increased to £11.44 ) was this a separate item on your Plusnet bill ?, PN then( apparently ) removed all subscriptions PN  to BT Sport when it changed to TNT , so does your PN bill still show an entry for this ( even though it’s not available ) or is it the case that the PN ‘bill’ never itemised BT Sport, but when you added BTSport  , your broadband charge increased by £10 ( with no explanation of what the £10 was for ) , then the BT sport element ( although not itemised ) went to £11.44 ( but presumably the broadband element also increased by CPI+3.9% so the total increase would have been more than £1.44  ) so is it the case that your bill never itemised BT Sport , but was £10 more than PN broadband without BT Sport , that £10 increase has been removed because there is no BT Sport but the reduction should be £11.44 ?

If was never  itemised, how is it possible to know  ?, if it was itemised and there is no longer an item on the bill so no ‘charge’ for BT Sport , then how is the £1.44 being ‘taken’
  • Plusnet added on the total internet +BT sport additional charge for CPI+3.9% to the internet cost, then took away the £10 sport charge leaving the £1.44 on the internet, so the actual increase is 21.6%

  • They had a BT sport charge of £10 itemised but added the increase of both the internet and BT sport to the line rental item on the bill to hide it. When they stopped the £10 charge they left the additional £1.44 on the line rental so effectively increased the internetbill by more than CPI+3.9%

Sorry to labour the point , if for example , ( obviously I don’t know the real amount ) the bill was
    PN broadband £30,
    BT Sport £10 ,
    so £40 total ,
then the CPI increases  so broadband and BT Sport  both  go up to and the bill now shows
    PN broadband £34.32 ,
    BT Sport  £11.44
    so £45.76  total ( £5.76 is  the CPI +3.9% =14.4% you state ) ,

Is it now ( without any BTSport ) you are saying instead of a total of £34.32 ( or whatever the actual broadband figure is ) it’s showing £35.76, which is only £10 less , instead of £11.44 less ? ( the extra £1.44 )
If that’s the case then it’s not right , but it also means that the first bill without BT Sport they would have had to show the broadband charge going up from  £30 to £34.32 then to £35.76 to account for it, and although it’s a small amount, you should challenge  it .
Do Plusnet have a community forum ,( like BT ) if they do , post your complaint on it , ( with the actual bill amounts ) if they have moderators, they should do something about it

  • The internet was £20 and the BT Sport was £10. After the 14.4% increase it was £34.32 (listed as £10 for BT sport and £24.32 for internet, which is obviously not correct). They removed the £10 and now its £24.32 ie a 21.6% not 14.4% increase. When I contacted them they just say thats the way they do it. I was just wondering if others had noticed this.

I'd phone them up and tell them you want to make a complaint, if they can't explain it any better than "this is how we do it" then take it to the ombudsman.
