  • I have just started using a Pitbull (Platinum) for my (bald) head - use it for approx 90secs (depends on how big your head is I guess :))and I use it every other day and use clippers (eg Wahl) for a moustache as the Pitbull doesn't seem to like any hair over a quarter of an inch long.

Hey which wahl did you choose?

Do you have to pay a bit to get a decent functioning tool? I would like one that preferably will run off of USB so I will be able to run it in my van once I wire electrics that can work for head shaving and beard trimming, most importantly which will clog less?

Or do you have to pay top dollar for them to not clog? I would expect the cheapies would not factor this but would expect a midpoint one perhaps to be able to not clog (sub £100 and maybe £50 range preferably?).

The pitbull is like £80 last time I looked a couple of years ago. How is the clogging for that? Maybe I would be ok witha reasonably priced wahl and then just shaver blades once the clippers did the initial thicker stuff, be that head or beard. If there is a good shaving blade I do not see a benefit in electric as blades do the job well and also will not use electric which is in more finite supply running out of a van.

I would honestly get and learn to use a safety razor. Cheap ones can be had for a tenner, a nice one for about £50, a luxury one for £100-200 or more. Can't recommend it enough, I used to HATE shaving.

The soaps are far better quality and the quality of the shave is better. The blades are about £10 or so for 100 blades and each blade gives 1-5 shaves depending on preference and the type of hair you have.

You actually enjoy the shaving experience instead of it being a task.

If you work out the money you spend on cheap handle systems and blades, its a huge saving per year to use a safety.

Disposable razors and cartridge razors and the canned goop people shave with didnt come about because theyre better and easier to use, they came about because companies like gillette had their patents expire on the handle/blade systems. The only way to keep a grip on the market was to come out with these new types and throw money at it which is why they advertise so heavily. Used to be fathers would teach sons how to use a straight, but a safety razor is called that because its very easy to use and a youtube video will show you how to use it.

They're very MSE as very little packaging with everything and blades come in card boxes wrapped in paper. The below is in dollars and I expect we probably get ripped off even more over here.

    Thanks for the info.

How are they with cutting fairly long hair? Like 2 cm on the head? Will they still manage for shaving my head too at that length or are clippers still going to be required at that length? Of course I could get into the habit of shaving more to prevent it getting to long. As you say it is a real chore hence why I avoid doing it. If it become a more amiable process then I could see myself doing it more often.

Does the safety one clog less for you? I do not remember it being any better in that department when I tried years ago but of course do not profess to using it properly.
