Jet2 won’t pay out compensation due to air traffic control after instructing us to book a hotel

Does anyone know what I should do: our flight was delayed 24 hours due to the air traffic control failure in the UK on 28th August. We booked our holiday as a package with jet2. They gave us a letter at the airport telling us to book a hotel and they will reimburse us for this and our meals. With meals and transfers our extra costs were around £500 but now they won’t pay out saying that it wasn’t their fault. Where do I turn to now?

Airlines aren't obliged to pay compensation when delays are caused by extraordinary circumstances beyond their control, but they're still on the hook for reimbursing reasonable costs of accommodation and meals regardless of whose fault it was, so if your claim was clear that it was for the latter rather than the former then they should have accepted it - are you able to share their exact wording?0
